On a lighter and brighter note...

Posted on December 11, 2020

Dear friends,

As days turned into weeks and then months, this year felt endlessly long and yet lightning-fast. We are definitely looking forward to the new year and bidding farewell to 2020.

Before we do, the fireflies* compiled a few of our favorite things. We've got a smorgasbord for you: from environmentally-friendly and DIY gifts to charitable suggestions and tasty treats.

We're especially proud of our 2021 Florida Ranches Calendar - a beautiful, throwback gift for people to enjoy all year long and a labor of love for us to publish.

The holidays will look different this year, but our hearts are still filled with love for our family and friends and hope that brighter days are around the corner.

With kindness,

Stacy Weller Ranieri
Founder, President, and Chief Illuminator

So Many Ways to Give from the Heart

Whether it's local or global, nonprofits are always looking for your time, talent, or treasure. It always starts from the heart.

House of Hope. In our opinion, the most impactful local nonprofit in Martin County - helping to end hunger and hardship in our community. The fireflies volunteered our time at their thrift store this week (pictured at right). Click here to make a donation of time or money. The need has never been greater.

United Way of Martin County Holiday ProjectEvery child should have a toy underneath the tree. You can play a huge role in making the holidays special for local families struggling to make ends meet. Click here to volunteer or donate.

The Salvation Army. With fewer Red Kettles this year, they need your support more than ever! Click here to find out how to save Christmas for those facing poverty, hunger, and job loss.

Charity Water. There are 785 million people in the world who live without clean water. Access to clean water means education, income, and health - especially for women and kids. Support this global non-profits life-sustaining efforts here.

Earth-friendly, people friendly- and sensible too!

Holiday shopping can be stressful, but environmentally-friendly options are a breeze. With more people spending time at home, here are some practical ideas.

Recyclable Wrapping Paper - About 2.3 million pounds of wrapping paper end up in landfills each year. There are so many eco-friendly alternatives, but this one's our favorite because it grows and blooms into colorful wildflowers!

Buy a pair of these quality, comfy socks, and Bombas donates a pair on your behalf to those need. This company has already donated over 40 million pairs to help the homeless!

Help someone shrink their carbon footprint while reducing the amount of plastic that ends up in our environment. A stainless steel water bottle from Swell is a swell idea!

Another way to reduce plastic litter is by using reusable metal straws. Durable, portable, easy to clean, and a great stocking stuffer!

Gardening Cocktail Kit - With all of us spending more time at home, gardening is becoming more popular than ever. Here's a fun way to become your own mixologist, and grow herbs for your cocktails. (Hint: Stacy wants this for Christmas.)

Firefly DIY

Super simple DIY crafts. As a gift or for yourself, a great way to channel your creative energy and spend quality time at home with your family. We've got some extra bright ideas in here. We can't help it. We're fireflies!

These candles are gorgeous and make for the perfect centerpiece! Material and time are minimal for this custom-made craft. As a bonus, even the candle holders smell delightful!

Celebrate the Festival of Lights this year with this beautiful manzanita-branch menorah, sprayed shimmering silver and trimmed with candles.
